We examine the economic effects of Summer and Winter Olympic Games FIFA World Cup on economies host countries. found that in short run, hosting has a significant positive announcement effect country’s equity market. Our results also revealed stock market non-G7 countries mega sporting event an insignificant G7 such events, indicating can provide additional momentum for developing or emerging economies. did find, however, while initially experienced GDP growth, rapidly diminished after event. suggest as is most likely to result short-term momentum, however it hinders sustainable growth countries’
